Rain, thunderstorms likely over many parts of India today

New Delhi: Several parts of India are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall and expected to witness thunderstorms along with lightning and gusty winds exceeding up to 40 kmph, the IMD said today.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Konkan & Goa and Heavy Rainfall at isolated places over Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan,” the IMD said.

“Parts of east Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Assam & Meghalaya, Tripura, North Gujarat Region, Kutch, ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka and Kerala & Mahe are also likely to receive heavy rainfall,” it said in its daily weather bulletin.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), “Thunderstorm with lightning & gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) very likely at isolated places over Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh, with lightning at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.”

“Strong Winds (speed 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph) very likely over Southeast, Southwest, West-central & adjoining Eastcentral Arabian Sea and along & off Kerala-Karnataka-Goa-Maharashtra-Gujarat coasts and Lakshadweep area,” it said.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas, the IMD added.
