Rain, thunderstorms likely over South and Northeast India

New Delhi: Parts of East, Northeast and South India are likely to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and are expected to witness thunderstorms along with lightning and gusty winds, the IMD said today.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), “Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls very likely at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya.”

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh & Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim & Heavy rainfall at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar & TamilNadu, Puducherry & Karaikal,” it said.

The IMD has also predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala & Mahe and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.

Strong winds (speed 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) very likely over Southwest and Westcentral Arabian Sea, the IMD said.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas, it added.
