Rain, thunderstorms likely over southern parts of India, says IMD

New Delhi: The India meteorological department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall along with lightning and thunderstorms over parts of South India today.

According to IMD, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Kerala & Mahe; heavy rainfall at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka, Lakshadweep and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.”

“Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning & gusting wind (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) very likely at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands,” the weather department said.

Lightning at isolated places over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, Tripura, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, it said.

Strong wind (wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph) very likely over Southeast Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas, the IMD said.
