New Delhi (NVI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will leave for Russia on a three-day visit starting Thursday to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) amid fresh India-China tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh.
He will be attending the crucial meeting which is expected to deliberate on regional security scenario on the invitation of Defence Minister of Russian Federation, General Shergei Shoigu, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
Apart from SCO, the meeting in collaboration with the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member States in commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of victory in the World War II, the MoD said.
During his visit, Rajnath is also scheduled to meet Defence Minister General Shoigu to discuss bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual interest.
“India and Russia are privileged strategic partners. The present visit marks one of many high political level interactions, which the two countries engage in regularly,” the MoD said in a statement.
Pertinent to mention here that Rajnath had attended the Victory Day Parade at Red Square in Moscow on June 24 to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
