Srinagar, Mar 10 (NVI): Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district have imposed restrictions in Mirgund and adjoining areas of Mirchimar village in Tehsil Singhpora of Pattan sub-division to prevent any possible law and order problem, officials said on Tuesday.

According to an order issued by the District Magistrate Baramulla, restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 have been enforced following a report by the Senior Superintendent of Police highlighting a long-standing dispute between two factions of the Shia community over the conduct of religious functions and control of Imam Bargah and Masjid Mirchimar in Mirgund.

The authorities said the restrictions have been imposed as a precautionary measure in view of the observance of the 21st of Ramzan to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incident.

The order states that the restrictions will remain in force from 8:00 PM on March 10 to 9:30 PM on March 11, 2026 in the specified areas.

Under the restrictions, the assembly of four or more persons, processions, carrying of firearms or any kind of weapon and the use of loudspeakers without prior permission from the District Magistrate have been prohibited.

However, the order said the restrictions will not apply to armed forces personnel, police officials, magistrates and other authorised public servants performing official duties, the officials added.(NVI)
