New Delhi (NVI): Spitting or urinating in public in Delhi will now attract a fine of Rs 1,000, according to a public notice issued by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
The directive is in pursuance to an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs in the wake of the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.
This has been made a punishable offence so as to prevent people from spitting in public which can result in further spread of the novel coronavirus.
The NDMC also states, “There should be a strict ban on sale of liquor, gutka and tobacco and spitting should be strictly prohibited.”
Delhi is one of the worst affected cities in the country, with a total of 42 fatalities and more than 1,700 positive coronavirus cases being reported so far, according to Union Health Ministry tally.
