Shopian Tragedy: Boiler Explosion Claims Two Lives

Shopian, Apr 30 (NVI): Two persons were killed and another critically injured after a steam boiler exploded at a cold storage facility in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at a cold store in the Aglar Pinjura area when a boiler, which was under repair, suddenly exploded, they said.

Three engineers sustained injuries in the blast and were rushed to District Hospital Shopian for treatment.

One of the injured, identified as Saurabh Singh of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, died on arrival at the hospital, officials said.

Another injured, Shiv Kumar, succumbed to his injuries later during the night, taking the death toll to two, they said.

The third injured, identified as Raj Kumar, is undergoing treatment and his condition is stated to be critical.

They said the explosion took place while the workers were carrying out repair work on the boiler. A probe has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the blast, they added.(NVI)
