Soldier Opens Fire Inside Army Barrack in Kupwara, Three Injured

Srinagar, Mar 29 (NVI): A soldier allegedly opened fire inside a military barrack in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district late last evening, leaving three personnel injured, officials said.

The incident occurred at a Army camp in Trehgam area during Earth Hour, when lights were switched off, resulting in complete darkness inside the barrack.

They said that the accused allegedly fired from his personal INSAS rifle inside the barrack.

The firing resulted in gunshot wounds to three personnel. Driver sustained critical injuries to the abdomen and leg and was immediately shifted to the operation theatre.

Another soldier, suffered gunshot wounds to the thigh, femur and genital area and was also taken for surgery while another sustained minor splinter injuries to the left buttock.

All injured personnel were rushed for urgent medical treatment, officials said, adding that the condition of two soldiers remains critical.

The circumstances leading to the firing are under investigation. (NVI)
