New Delhi (NVI): A special train with 1,255 migrant labourers, left from Hyderabad’s Lingampally to Hatia in Jharkhand today, the first such train in the country to carry migrants amid the nationwide lockdown.
The labourers were brought to the Lingampally railway station in 56 buses. The train left with RPF and GRP escort.
This comes two days after the Ministry of Home Affairs announced guidelines for states to bring back their stranded students and migrant labourers on certain conditions, including social distancing and pre and post check ups of passengers for Covid-19.
Looking at the scenario, the Telangana Government made a special request to the Indian Railways to arrange a special train to send the workers home.
All necessary precautions including prior screening of passengers, maintaining social distancing at the station, and in the train were followed, the Railways said.
According to the media reports, about 10 million migrant labourers are stranded across the country. Considering the situation, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday issued fresh guidelines allowing stranded migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, and students to go home but with certain conditions.
