Srinagar Police register FIRs against Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Junaid Azim Mattu for circulating misleading content

Srinagar, March 04 (NVI): Srinagar Police on Wednesday registered two FIRs against Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and Junaid Azim Mattu for allegedly circulating false and misleading content on digital and social media platforms with the intent to create fear, disturb public order and incite unlawful activities.

According to a police statement (NVI) the content prima facie reflects dissemination of distorted narratives and unverified information capable of causing public unrest and societal disharmony.

“Such deliberate attempts to spread misinformation pose a serious threat to peace, security and overall stability,” the statement said.

Accordingly, FIR No. 02/2026 and FIR No. 03/2026 have been registered under Sections 197(1)(d) and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Cyber Police Station, Srinagar. Investigation in both cases has been initiated.

Srinagar Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining public peace and law and order and urged citizens to verify information through official and credible sources before sharing content online.

Police further warned that legal action will be taken against those found spreading unverified or misleading information that could disturb communal harmony or public order.—(NVI)
