Jammu: The 2 terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohd outfit killed in Sunjwan encounter yesterday were suspected to be Pashtun from Pakistan Or Afghanistan and had infiltrated to carry out some major attack in Jammu region, according to the police.
The police has arrested 2 people involved in providing logistics support to these terrorists who attacked a CISF picket yesterday and were killed in the ensuing encounter.
An Assistant Sub-Inspector of CISF was killed and 2 were injured in the attack on their bus just outside their camp in Sunjwan early yesterday morning.
On the basis of initial probe, it has been found that the killed terrorists were able to speak only Pashtu language and not Urdu or English, the police said.
This means that they were either Afghans or from Khyber-Pokhtoonkhwan region of Pakistan, they said.
Considering the recoveries, including ‘suicide’ vests and arms and ammunition, from the slain terrorists, it is evident that they were on a mission to carry out some major attack in Jammu, the police said.
They had freshly infiltrated via the Samba sector and were picked up by one Bilal Ahmad Wagay of Kokernag in Kashmir in a truck laden with vegetables, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu, Mukesh Singh said.
He cited investigations and analyses of Close Circuit Television Set (CCTVs) footages.
“Investigations also show that two Kashmiri brothers from Tral — Shafiq Ahmed and Asif Ahmed — working in a walnut factory in Narwal, close to Sujwan area, were in touch with a Jaish commander through Telegram application,” he said.
The Jaish commander was using the code name ‘Veer Singh’.
The role of another youth, identified as Iqbal from Dhamhal Hanjipora in Kashmir, has also come to the fore, Kumar said.
Shafiq and Iqbal have been arrested while Bilal Wagay is on the run, the ADGP said.
All of them were in touch with JeM commander based in Pakistan through a Telegram group named ‘Pagal Jamaat’.
Kumar said Bilal Wagay had reached Jammu on April 20 and facilitated the travel of the terrorists from Samba to Sunjwan.
He said the JeM commander had tasked Bilal Wagay and Shafiq to receive two terrorists in Jammu.
More arrests are likely to be made in the case as investigations are on, the ADGP Jammu said.
The encounter took place just two days ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Samba in Jammu region tomorrow.
