‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’: Weapon & equipment display organised by Army in Shillong

New Delhi (NVI): As part of the “Swarnim Vijay Varsh” celebrations, to commemorate the historic victory of Indian Armed Forces in 1971 War, the Indian Army has organised a weapon and equipment display cum awareness programme on ‘Know Your Armed Forces’ over a period of three days from March 25 to 27 at Polo ground, Shillong.

Headquarters 101 Area, under the Army’s Eastern Command, has organised the three-day event. The event was inaugurated by Major General HS Shanbhag, Officiating General Officer Commanding, 101 Area on today in which Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Assam Rifles have displayed various weapons and equipment for the students, NCC cadets and local populace of the area, as per an official release.

“The youths were fascinated seeing the display and showed tremendous inquisitiveness regarding the capability and functioning of the weapons and equipment. Besides that, Khukri Dance Display, Pipe & Drum Band of 58 GTC enthralled the audience with their mesmerizing performances,” read the official statement.

A movie on “The Liberation of Bangladesh” was also screened at the venue, it added.

In addition, ‘Career Guidance and Interaction’ for the students and NCC cadets was also organised. During the interactive session, the students and locals were made aware on various types of entries to join the Indian Armed Forces as a career option.

“The students were inspired by the glorious history of the Indian Armed Forces and were highly motivated to the join the Forces. The event witnessed attendance by large number of NCC cadets, students and locals of the area,” read the statement.

“All the attendees expressed profound gratitude for undertaking such an initiative and appreciated the continuous efforts and commitment of Indian Army in reaching out to the youth,” it added.
