New Delhi (NVI): New Delhi (NVI): The Union Health Ministry today said that the doubling rate of Covid-19 cases in the country would have been 7.4 days, had the Tablighi Jammat incident in Delhi not taken place. The current doubling rate is at 4.1 days, especially after the new cases emerged due to the Nizamuddin ‘Markaz’ in mid-March.
Luv Aggarwal, Joint Secretary with the Health Ministry suggested that doubling of cases happened quicker because of the Tableeghi incident.
“If we compare the Tablighi Jamaat incident, we have seen that our doubling rate, which means the number of days in which cases double, that is 4.1 presently. Had this incident not taken place and these additional cases would not have come, then the doubling rate would have been 7.4 days,” Aggarwal said at the COVID-19 briefing by Health Ministry at National Media Center here.
According to the Ministry, as many as 1,023 coronavirus positive cases in 17 states have been traced to the Tablighi event in Delhi, accounting for 30 per cent of all cases in India.
Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in India rose to 3,374 today, while 77 people have died from the disease so far, the Health Ministry said.
