New Delhi (NVI): Telangana has decided to close all schools and colleges, except medical colleges, from today as a precautionary measure.

With health authorities already announcing that Telangana is on the verge of a second wave of Covid-19, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao took stock of the situation and ordered the shutdown.

The online classes would resume for students during the shutdown period.

The closure orders apply to all hostels, gurukul schools, government and private educational institutions in the state except medical colleges, an official statement read.

The second round of closure of schools due to Covid-19 came just 51 days after they reopened on February 1 after a gap of 10 months, since the nationwide lockdown was announced in March 2020.

Schools have already been closed in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh.
