Kargil, July 26(NVI): In the backdrop of spurt in terrorist activities in Jammu & Kashmir recently, PM Narendra Modi today used the Kargil war victory day and its venue to warn Pakistan and “terror masterminds” there against pursuing evil designs vis-a-vis India.
Modi visited Kargil to pay homage to the soldiers who fought and died during the three-month-long war in 1999 on the 25th anniversary of the day Pakistani forces started retreating.
The war was thrust upon India by Pakistan whose troops clandestinely cross the Line of Control (LoC) and captured the mountain peaks of Drass-Kargil sector which were unmanned during the winters as per an unwritten understanding between the two countries.
India, without crossing the LoC, used all its force to evict the Pakistani troops and pushed them back behind the de facto border.
On this day, the war was declared over and a ceasefire was announced.
Since then, this day is celebrated as ‘Kargil Vijay Divas’ or ‘Kargil Victory Day’.
Addressing a gathering here on the occasion, the Prime Minister said Pakistan has not learnt anything from its previous defeats and is still busy in abetting terrorism in India.
“If we look back in history, Pakistan has been defeated and disgraced in all its misadventures. Pakistan has (still) not learnt anything from its history. It is repeatedly trying to keep itself relevant by supporting & harbouring terrorism,” Modi said denouncing the persistent support to terrorism against India by the Pakistan government.
“But today, the place from where I am speaking, (I am sure) the masterminds of terrorism are clearly listening, I want to assert that their evil designs will never succeed. Terrorism will be crushed with full strength by our brave forces. Enemy will be bite the dust,” he said.
These are the first comments by the Prime Minister after a spate of terror attacks in Jammu region over the last few months, in which several security personnel have been killed.
Modi, while highlighting the indomitable spirit and bravery of the soldiers who fought in the 1999 Kargil conflict, said, “the Kargil Vijay Diwas tells us that the sacrifices made for the nation are immortal.”
PM Modi emphasized that the sacrifices made by these soldiers will never be forgotten and that their valor continues to inspire the nation.
In his address, PM Modi reiterated the nation’s gratitude towards the martyrs and highlighted the government’s commitment to the welfare of the armed forces and their families.
He also underscored the importance of national security and the need to remain vigilant against any threats to the country’s sovereignty.
The prime minister’s address underscored the significance of this day in the nation’s history and its role in fostering a sense of unity and patriotism.
PM Modi’s tribute was followed by various ceremonies and events across the country, celebrating the heroic deeds of the soldiers and reaffirming the nation’s commitment to its armed forces. (News Vibes of India)
