Jammu, Oct 28 (NVI): An unidentified terrorist was killed, and an Army dog also lost its life during an ongoing encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The encounter began after security forces chased terrorists who fired upon an Army ambulance, causing no injuries.
During the operation, one terrorist was killed, and the operation is still in progress. A BMP-2 infantry combat vehicle and National Security Guards (NSG) were later deployed to assist in eliminating the terrorists.
The Army issued a statement honoring the sacrifice of an Army dog, Phantom, which drew enemy fire and sustained fatal injuries while troops were closing in on the terrorists.
So far, one terrorist has been neutralized, and warlike stores have been recovered.
“We salute the supreme sacrifice of our true hero—a valiant #IndianArmy Dog, #Phantom,” the Army said in a statement. “As our troops were closing in on the trapped terrorists, #Phantom drew enemy fire, sustaining fatal injuries. His courage, loyalty, and dedication will never be forgotten,” it said. “In the ongoing operation, one terrorist has been neutralized and Warlike stores have been recovered thus far,” it added.
