Jammu, Sep 23 (NVI): The Special Operations Group (SOG) Jammu has arrested three alleged members of the Khauf gang, including a man wanted in connection with several criminal cases, officials said on Wednesday.
Officials said the main accused, Karanjit Singh alias “Gugga”, son of Arjun Singh and a resident of Dablehar in R S Pura, was apprehended from Delhi during an operation conducted by the SOG Jammu.
Karanjit is an accused in the Gataroo murder case and has also been named in several other cases pertaining to alleged attempt to murder, assault, rioting, criminal intimidation and illegal possession of weapons, officials said.
He had earlier allegedly escaped from the R S Pura Observation Home along with two Pakistani inmates. During the escape, police personnel on duty were allegedly assaulted and injured in firing inside the observation home, they said.
During the same operation, the SOG also arrested two alleged associates of the gang from Delhi, officials said.
The arrested persons have been identified as Naresh Kumar alias “Major”, son of Kamal Kumar, a resident of Arnia, and Rahul Kumar alias “Sundi”, son of Bishan Dass, a resident of Makhanpur, Bishnah.
Naresh is allegedly associated with the gang and has been involved in cases related to violent assault, rioting and illegal possession of weapons. He is also stated to be a close associate of absconder Sunil Kumar alias “Gokul”, officials said.
Rahul is involved in a case related to the alleged smuggling of narcotics into jail premises and has been booked under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and the Prisons Act, they said.
The arrests are part of the ongoing efforts by Jammu Police and the SOG to trace absconders and investigate the activities of organised criminal networks, officials said.—(NVI)
