Baramulla, Sept 14 (NVI): Three terrorists were killed during an overnight gun battle in the Chak Tappar area of Baramulla and that there was no casuality on Security Force’s side, the Army said today.
It said that a joint operation by the Indian Army, Special Operations Group (SOG), and Jammu and Kashmir Police was carried out professionally, while following all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
Army’s Sector 10 commander, while speaking to media personnel at Haiderbeig, as per News Vibes of India (NVI), said that on the evening of September 13, information had been gathered about the movement of unidentified terrorists in the area. He was flanked by police officials as well.
He said security teams were mobilized, and a cordon-and-search operation was mounted based on the inputs received. “While the forces were in the process of establishing their positions, the terrorists, who were hiding in an ‘abandoned building,’ opened fire, and the gunfight became very intense.”
The officer said heavy gunfire continued throughout the night, and security forces returned fire effectively. He stated that by morning, the operation was over, and all three terrorists were killed, with war-like stores recovered and no casualties among the security forces.
It is pertinent to mention that two army personnel were killed and two others injured during an encounter in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district in the Jammu region on Friday. With elections only days away for the general assembly polls, eight constituencies in Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts, and 16 constituencies in South Kashmir will go to the ballot on September 18.
