Anantnag, May 5 (NVI): In a significant success against the drug menace, Anantnag Police on Tuesday apprehended a notorious woman drug peddler and recovered a heroin-like substance from her possession during a naka checking operation.
Officials said that a police team from Police Post Dialgam had established a routine naka at Laalan Bypass. During checking, a woman approaching from Bondialgam towards Laalan aroused suspicion after attempting to flee on noticing the police presence. The alert naka party acted promptly and managed to apprehend her on the spot.
During her personal search, officers recovered a contraband substance, believed to be heroin. On questioning, the accused identified herself as Shugafta Akhter, daughter of Mohd Hussain Dar, a resident of Dangerpora, Anantnag.
Police said the accused is a known and most-wanted drug peddler, already involved in multiple cases under the NDPS Act.
A case under FIR No. 130/2026 has been registered under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act at the concerned police station, and further investigation is underway.
Police termed the arrest a major breakthrough in the ongoing anti-drug campaign in the district.(NVI)
