Srinagar, Nov 12 (NVI) :- Tourists who are planning to visit Gurez in winter have been advised to exercise caution and those with tight schedules should reconsider their decision.
“Tourists planning to visit Gurez during the onset of winter are hereby advised to exercise caution, as sudden snowfall can cause the closure of the Bandipora-Gurez road, the only reliable route in and out of the area. Those with tight schedules, limited budgets, or urgent commitments should reconsider their plans, as unexpected weather conditions can trap visitors for an extended period.” Reads the advisory a copy of which lies with NVI.
“During winter, heavy snowfall can completely block the road, leaving no dependable alternative for exit. It is important to be aware that the road remains closed throughout the winter due to snow accumulation.” It reads.
“Besides the tourist vehicles can get stuck on Bandipora-Gurez road due to sudden snowfall. Extreme cold (minus temperature) and prolonged halt on the road, especially during night can cause death of a person. Any mishap can go undetected in the absence of telecommunication network on the road. Slippery road and low visibility conditions is highly dangerous and life threatening as the vehicle can skid down the hill.” Advisory reads.
It is important to note that Gurez is presently suitable for summer tourism only. It is not advisable to visit the place for winter tourism in the absence of all weather road. (News Vibes of India)
