Peshawar, May 9 (NVI) Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) tonight claimed to have killed more than 30 Pakistani soldiers and injured several others in different attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
The TTP, which is carrying out ‘Operation Al-Khandaq’ against the Pakistani military since March, said a “systematic and intense attack” was carried out on the Dawn Gate military post in the Shekai district of South Waziristan last night.
In the initial part of the attack, 6 personnel were targeted and killed with a laser gun, TTP spokesman Muhammad Khorasani said in a statement tonight.
Subsequently, the post was targeted with light and heavy weapons and more casualties were reported as a result of this attack, he said.
Meanwhile, a military convoy tried to come to the aid of the said post from the Mantoi area but it was ambushed, in which two military vehicles were completely destroyed, he said.
In total, 20 personnel were killed and 5 were injured in this operation, the spokesman said.
The Mujahideen also seized 5 guns, a rocket launcher and night vision binoculars, besides other military equipment, from the defeated enemy, he said.
A Mujahid comrade Musab was also martyred in this operation, Khorasani said.
He said this attack was carried out to avenge the killing of comrades martyred in Shawwal in the past few days.
In another major attack, a military convoy was ambushed and attacked with light and heavy weapons today in the Khushhali Natasi area of Mirali district of North Waziristan, he said.
The convoy was returning from a military post called “Zid Ghar” after delivering military ammunition, he said.
The battle continued from morning to 4 pm in which 8 military personnel were killed and 4 were injured, while a military vehicle was also damaged, the spokesman said.
Finally, the army personnel panicked and started shelling the civilian population, he said.
Considering the civilian population and the strong insistence of the national leaders, the TTP cadres gave the troops a “safe passage”.
In a separate attack, at 7 am today, a military post near the Honeymoon Hotel in Mir Ali district of North Waziristan was attacked by Grenade Launchers, in which 2 military personnel were killed and several injured.
Mujahideen of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan also launched a massive attack on the Hasokhel Pul military post in the North Waziristan area at 12 noon, in which more casualties are reported, he said. (NVI)
