Peshawar: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has strongly condemned desecration of Holy Quran in Sweden and warned that those who responsible for such dirty deeds will bear the “consequences”.

The Islamist organisation demanded punishment for the Muslim man who carried out the unholy act and appealed to “religious organisations” of Islamic countries, including OIC, to respond to such a  heinous development.

On the day of Eid-ul-Azha two days back, a man Salwan Momika, said to be an Iraqi living in Sweden, set a copy of Holy Quran afire outside Stockholm’s central mosque after getting permission from the authorities.

According to reports, Swedish police had given permission to Momika for the protest in accordance with free-speech laws.

However, following an outrage over the incident, the Swedish police said the incident was being investigated for incitement of hatred.

“In Sweden, a man desecrated the Holy Quran and burnt it under the security fence with the permission of the court…. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan strongly condemns this unholy act of a liberal extremist and the permission and protection of such a brazen act by the Swedish authorities under the pretext of freedom of expression,” TTP spokesman Muhammad Khurasani said in a statement.

He said insulting such a holy book cannot be tolerated by anyone, especially Muslims.

“It is tantamount to challenging the honor of Muslims and the people who pave the way for such dirty deeds will be responsible for the consequences,” the TTP spokesman said.

“Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan demands the religious organizations of Islamic countries, especially the OIC, to take all necessary measures in response to such heinous actions worldwide and punish this insolent person,” Khurasani said.
