Peshawar: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which declared an all-out war against the Pakistani security establishment in November last year, has stepped up its activities, causing increasing casualties among the military personnel and damage to their assets.
The Islamist outfit carried out 76 attacks at Pakistani armed forces and their installations at various places during the month of May, killing at least 87 soldiers and injuring 119, according to the details shared by it today.
The number of attacks and casualties caused was higher in May as compared to April when the TTP killed 70 Pakistani security personnel, including Army soldiers, and injured 82 in 48 attacks across the country.
The places where the attacks were carried out in the month of May included Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, North and South Waziristan, Peshawar and Swat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
The maximum of 26 attacks were carried out in Dera Ismail Khan Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, according to the details shared by TTP spokesman Muhammad Khurasani.
Two attacks were carried out in Balochistan Province.
About the nature of operations, he said 23 were Sniper/Laser attacks, 11 were retaliatory attacks, 11 were ambushes, 11 were Counter Attack, 9 Guerilla Attacks, 9 Grenade/Bomb blasts and 4 Targeted Attacks.
The casualties among the “Enemy” (Pakistani forces) included 87 killed and 119 injured, the spokesman said.
The Institutions hit included 107 of the Pakistan Army, 51 of the paramilitary Frontier Corps, 46 Police and 2 Intelligence, he said.
In these attacks, the TTP destroyed 11 spy cameras, 6 military vehicles, 2 police mobiles and 1 military post, he said.
The weapons seized by the TTP from the Pakistani armed forces included 4 SMGs, 1 LMG, 3 AK-47 assault, 2 other Rifles and 1 American-made night vision goggles along with numerous bullets, Khurasani said.
In April, the TTP carried out 48 attacks in various places, including Bannu, North and South Waziristan, Lucky Marwat, Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
In Balochistan Province, it carried out 5 attacks.
The Institutions hit in April included 73 of the Army/SSG, 44 of Police/CTD, 33 of Frontier Corps and 2 of Intelligence.
