Peshawar: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) caused huge damage to Pakistani security forces in terms of men and material assets during the outgoing year 2023, killing 977 personnel and injuring 1216 in 881 attacks at several places across the country.
TTP, as part of an all-out war, has been carrying out operations against the Pakistan Army and other security agencies after ending a ceasefire on November 28, 2022.
Giving details of its operations, the TTP said in a statement that the maximum 146 attacks were carried out in the month of August.
At least 46 attacks were carried out by TTP in the month of January 2023, 29 in February, 42 in March, 48 in April, 77 in May, 67 in June, 101 in July, 105 in September, 82 in October, 78 in November and 60 in December, it said.
Among the places, North Waziristan saw 208 attacks, South Waziristan witnessed 152 operations, Khyber Agency 119, Dera Ismail Khan 80, Peshawar 57, Tanic 40, Lucky Marwat 34, Bei 24, Khurram Agency 21, Bajaur Agency 21, Mardan 20, Quetta 19, Qila Abdullah 8, Chitral 7, Mianwali 7, Lower Dheer 7, Pusheen 7, Swabi 6, Jobe 5, Mohmand Agency 4, SWAT 4, Kirk 3, Kohat 3, Upper Dheer 3, Charsadda 3, Chaman 2, Sourab 2, Shangla 2, Khanewal 1, Taunsa Sharif 1, Dera Ghazi Khan 1, Washik 1 and Karachi 1.
Dera Ismail Khan witnessed 271 attacks during the year, Bannu saw 266 attacks, Peshawar 184, Malakand province 46, Kohat Province 29, Mardan 26, South Punjab 10, Zhob (in Balochistan) 5, Hazara 1, Gilgit-Baltistan 1, Makran and Kalat (both in Balochistan) 1 each.
About the types of operations, the statement issued by TTP spokesman Muhammad Khurasani said 206 were Sniper/Laser attacks, 129 were gunfights, 123 Guerrilla attacks, 114 ambushes, 107 Counterattacks, 96 Grenades/bombings, 82 targeted attacks, 19 missile attacks and 5 suicide attacks.
The casualties on part of the Pakistani security forces were 977 killed and 1216 wounded, while 23 were taken captive.
The Institutions hit included 1064 of the Pakistan Army/SSG/Rangers, 598 of Police/Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), 472 of the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC) and 59 of Secret/Peace Committee, the TTP said.
The operations by the Islamist group resulted in the destruction/damage of 13 military buildings, 14 police/CTD constructions, 66 military vehicles, 26 police mobile vehicles, 6 motorcycles and 90 cameras, it said.
During these operations, the TTP seized from the Pakistani security personnel 42 Kalashnikovs (AK rifles), 12 other miscellaneous guns, 3 MG1 Guns, 1 rocket launcher, 6 pistols, 6 digit night vision, 3 motorcycles, 2 phones and multiple grenades besides hundreds of bullets of different guns.
