TTP kills 7 Pakistani security men as it expands attacks to Punjab

Peshawar (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa): Demonstrating what they declared, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has carried out an attack in Punjab Province, targeting a joint team of Pakistan Army, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and police and killing two security personnel and injuring one.

The joint team was attacked in Taunsa district of the province last night.

Police said 9 attackers were involved in the gun assault and two persons, including a policeman were killed on the spot, while another policeman was critically wounded.

Taking responsibility for the attack, TTP spokesman Muhammad Khurasani said in a statement to the News Vibes of India (NVI) that 2 officers were killed and a number of others were injured in the attack on the joint post of Army, CTD and Police in Janghi area of Taunsa in Dera Ghaz Khan district of South Punjab.

The injured fled, taking advantage of the darkness, he said.

The Mujahideen seized 2 Kalashnikov rifles, one G-3, 5 magazines and two uniforms from them, Khurasani said.

This is the first attack by the TTP in Punjab since its recent announcement that it would be expanding its actions across Pakistan.

In another action, the TTP targeted a police station and a police team in Sarband in Peshawar last night, killing 4 Pakistani police officers and injuring 3.

A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) along with 2 of his gunmen were among those killed, police said.

Khurasani said the TTP Mujahideen carried out laser gun attacks.

They seized 2 Kalashnikov rifles, 7 magazines & 47,000 rupees, the TTP spokesman said. 

In North Waziristan, the TTP killed a Pakistani soldier in a sniper attack at a military checkpost in Hasukhel Pul area of Mir Ali Tehsil last night, the spokesman said.
