Peshawar: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) today mocked the Pakistan Army, especially its so-called ‘elite’ Special Services Group (SSG), saying it failed in rescuing a teacher and 7 students who got stuck in a hanging Chairlift for several hours in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa three days back.

The Islamist organization said the personnel of Pakistan Army, which is claiming to be a “contender for Number one (force in the world)” do not have the “passion and strength” equivalent even to an ordinary youth of Pakistan.

“Three days ago, a Chairlift wire broke in Bhattagram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where a teacher was trapped along with seven of his students,” TTP spokesman Muhammad Khurasani said in a statement.

“In the rescue operation, two local youths, Sahib Khan and Habib-ur-Rehman, risked their lives to save the children and once again showed that the spirit of self-sacrifice is still alive in our country,” he said.

Khurasani was referring to the incident which happened in the valley of Bhattagram, a remote place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, when the teacher and students got suspended in the air after the Chairlift got stuck above a gorge.

The Army was called for the rescue mission and it flew some sorties of helicopter. However, the Army personnel failed to rescue the trapped people and as sunset fell, the helicopters were also withdrawn.

As the ordeal got prolonged by several hours, some local brave hearts rose to the occasion and saved the trapped people.

Mocking the Pakistan Army, the TTP said, “the SSG did a good (photo) shoot by making a few helicopter rounds but they failed to save the children.”

The TTP spokesman went on to add, “it became clear to the nation once again that the contenders for number one (Army) do not have the passion and strength of an ordinary youth.”

He said it was the ordinary citizens who rose to the occasion and came to the rescue of the people trapped.
