Peshawar: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) today said it killed 8 Pakistani soldiers and injured 2 in an attack at a military camp in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The attack on the military camp located in Umar Ada area of Tank District was carried out last night using rocket launchers, laser guns and grenades, TTP spokesman Muhammad Khurasani said in a statement.

In the assault, 5 personnel of Pakistan Army and 3 of Frontier Corps (FC) were killed and 2 injured, he added.

A military vehicle and a motorcycle were also destroyed in this operation, he said.

It was a counter attack to a siege laid by the Pakistan Army and FC on “3 formations” of TTP for the last several days in Peshawar Province.

In another statement, Khurasani said the cadres of TTP had broken through the siege laid by the Army and the FC and reached their safe places.

“For the past several days, our three formations in two tehsils of Mohmad Agency, Peshawar Province, which also carried out operations in Tehsil Safi and Tehsil Pandialai, were under the siege of the Army and FC,” the TTP spokesman said.

“Due to the continuous pursuit of large numbers of troops, severe weather and lack of manpower and resources, the colleagues thought it best not to retaliate,” he said.

Meanwhile, an Afghan child has been arrested by Pakistani authorities on suspicion of having links with TTP, Khurasani said and added that the child has no connection with his outfit

“He may be an ordinary Afghan citizen, as is usually the case in the tribal and tribal areas of the country,” the TTP spokesman said.
