Peshawar: A day after two children were killed in a drone attack by the Pakistan military in South Waziristan, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) today said the Pakistani State is “cruel and oppressive” with no regard for humanity.

The children were among several people killed when the Pakistani military carried out a drone attack in a market in Zinghara area of South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on suspicion of presence of rebels there.

“This (Pakistani) State is cruel and oppressive. It does not care for humanity or religious and national values,” TTP spokesman Muhammad Khurasani said in a statement.

Sending out a message to the people of Pakistan, he said on the one hand, TTP is avoiding harm to the public to the utmost extent, on the other hand, there is an armed group (Pakistani military) imposed on the country, which has no rules of war and does not hesitate to cause harm to the public.”

Referring to the efforts by the State to wash its hands off from the terrible killings, Khurasani said it was “very sad and shameful” for the authorities to try to cover up the facts.

He also slammed comments made by some local authorities that the killings took place in artillery shelling and not in drone attack.

He asked, “What is the argument? Is the killing of children cruel only if they are attacked by drones?”

Khurasani added that the most unfortunate part was that those who present themselves as leaders of the United Nations and human rights are silent over the brutality of the Pakistani forces.

“This a clear case of injustice,” he said.
