Doda, Sep 10 (NVI) Two persons were arrested for allegedly transporting two oxen without valid permission and subjecting them to cruelty in Assar area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, police said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Bag Hussain and Shak Din, both residents of Vijaypur in Samba district, were intercepted by a police patrolling party at Bhata Morh in Assar, they said.
According to police, the duo was taking the oxen on foot towards Batote and Srinagar and allegedly tried to conceal themselves after noticing the patrolling party.
The animals were allegedly being beaten with sticks and appeared to be hungry and thirsty, police said.
The police rescued the oxen and arrested the two men after they failed to produce valid permission or authorisation for transporting the animals, officials said.
A case under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act has been registered at Assar police station, they said.—(NVI)
