Srinagar, July 06 (NVI) : Security forces today achieved a major success in Kashmir as they killed 4 terrorists even as 2 soldiers lost their lives in 2 separate gunfights in Kulgam district.
The two gun battles raged through the day in two villages – Matergam and Frisal Chinigam – in Kulgam district, police said.
While the encounter in Matergam started in the forenoon, the one in Frisal Chinigam began in the late afternoon.
Both the gunfights started after a joint team of J&K Police and Army launched search operations on the basis of inputs about presence of terrorists.
The success was achieved in Frisal Chinigam where four terrorists were killed, the police said.
One soldier also lost his life in this gunfight, the police said.
One soldier was killed in the encounter in Matergam.
Both the operations are still on.
Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Range) V K Birdi said the killing of terrorists is a significant achievement while there are some fatalities and injuries from our side as well.
He also clarified that the both the encounter sites were far away from the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway
