Srinagar: Security forces today killed two terrorists of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit in an encounter in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, during which a civilian also died, police said.

The gunfight in Amshipora area started when security forces were searching for terrorists hiding in the area, the police said.

The cordon was laid during the intervening night following an input about the presence of terrorists which proved correct.

During the searches early this morning, the hiding terrorists resorted to indiscriminate firing, injuring a civilian identified as Shakeel Ahmed Khan. He died while being taken to hospital, the police said.

The security forces retaliated effectively to the firing by terrorists and the ensuing gunfight resulted in the killing of Muzamil Ahmad Mir and Shariq Ayoob, both affiliated with LeT, the police said.

Muzamil was involved in several terror crimes, Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone) Vijay Kumar said.

One AK-56 rifle and one pistol, along with ammunition, were also recovered, he added.
