Srinagar, Mar 6 (NVI): Two pilots of the Indian Air Force lost their lives after a Su-30MKI fighter aircraft crashed in Karbi Anglong district of Assam during a training mission on Thursday.
According to the Indian Air Force (IAF) said that the aircraft had taken off from Jorhat airbase but later went overdue. The last contact with the aircraft was established at around 7:42 pm, following which search and rescue operations were immediately launched.
Later, the IAF confirmed that the fighter jet had crashed in the Karbi Anglong area of Assam, nearly 60 kilometres from Jorhat, during a routine training sortie. Rescue teams were rushed to the crash site soon after the incident.
In an update issued on Friday morning, the force confirmed the death of the two pilots—Squadron Leader Anuj and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar—who sustained fatal injuries in the crash.
The Indian Air Force expressed deep condolences over the loss and said that all personnel of the force stand firmly with the bereaved families in this difficult time. (NVI)
