US surpasses China, Italy in confirmed coronavirus cases

New Delhi (NVI): The US has reported more coronavirus cases than any other country in the world, surpassing even China’s total, showing how rapidly the virus can move through a population.

Over 16,000 positive cases were reported in a single day in the US as the total number of coronavirus patients soared to 85,088, according to John Hopkins University data.

A week ago, the number of confirmed cases was at 8,000. It has dangerously surged 10 times in the span of a week.

At least 263 deaths more deaths have been reported in the country, taking the total death toll to 1,290 so far.

Italy has reported the highest death toll with more than 8,200 deaths.

Whereas, Spain has the second-highest death toll at 4,365 with more than 57,000 confirmed cases.

Overall, 1,20,000 people worldwide have recovered from COVID-19, while more than 23,000 people have died.

More than 5,32,000 people have been infected by coronavirus globally.
