Wet spell over northwest, central India from Feb 3-5: IMD

New Delhi (NVI): The Indian Metrological Department (IMD) predicted a wet spell over northwest and adjoining central India from February 3 to 5 under the influence of western disturbance.

According to IMD’s weather forecast, “Wet spell over Northwest & adjoining Central India, during 3-5 February, 2021 and in Bihar and Jharkhand between 5-6 February.”

The same wet conditions are expected over Western Himalayan Hills between February 3 and 4 and in the plains from February 4 to 5, IMD said in a statement.

The Met department also said, the spell doll conditions will prevail under the influence of the western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation in lower tropospheric levels lies over Afghanistan.

“An induced cyclonic circulation lies over central Pakistan and adjoining West Rajasthan in lower tropospheric levels. These systems are likely to affect weather over northwest Himalayan region from tonight,” it added.

The statement also noted that, the confluence of southwesterlies in association with the above Western Disturbance and lower level southeasterlies is very likely over the plains of northwest and adjoining areas of central India during February 3 to 5.

Under the influence of these systems, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain/snow with isolated thunderstorm, lightning & hail very likely over Western Himalayan region from February 2 night to February 5, IMD said.

“Heavy rainfall or snowfall is likely over Jammu & Kashmir on February 3 and 4 and over Himachal Pradesh on February 4,” it said.

On the other hand, moderate rain or thundershowers with isolated lightning and hailstorm is also likely over plains of northwest India from February 3 to 5 and over east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand on February 4 and 5.

Meanwhile, there will be rise in minimum temperatures likely over most parts of Northwest and adjoining Central India during next three to four days, the Met department noted.

As the western disturbance likely to move further towards northern parts of Uttar Pradesh-northern parts Bihar, by February 4, the current spell of cold wave, cold day, dense fog observed presently at morning over eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar also likely to be lifted from February 3 to 4.

The current spell of cold wave conditions prevailing over parts of Northwest India is likely to abate during next 24 hours, IMD added.
