New Delhi (NVI): Eleven persons were crushed to death when a giant crane collapsed at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam city today.
The 70-tonne crane, which was built by the Mumbai-based Anupam Cranes two years ago but was yet to be made operational, had been undergoing load testing when the mishap took place.
The accident happened when the workers were carrying out an inspection of the crane used to carry equipment for shipbuilding. The massive crane suddenly crumbled and crashed to the ground with a massive sound.
Three bodies were retrieved from under the debris of the crane and the remaining were believed to be crushed, according to media reports.
Officials said that no one was injured in the incident and that all the 11 who were present in the crane have died.
