Srinagar: Two Pakistan-supported terrorists were today killed in a gunfight with security forces in Shopian district of Kashmir.
The armed encounter took place in Kilbal village of Shopian district after the security forces launched a cordon and search operation following input about presence of terrorists there.
As the security forces zeroed in on a house, the terrorists hiding there opened fire, police said.
The security forces retaliated, leading to a gunfight which left two terrorists dead, the police said.
Police said the two slain were locals and were affiliated with the so-called terror group The Resistance Front (TRF), which is shadow organization of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terror outfit.
“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition (were) recovered,” the police said in a tweet.
With today’s operation, security forces have killed 16 terrorists, including some top commanders, in the first 3 weeks of the new year.
