Peshawar: The Police Lines in Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa came under a major attack today, with a suicide bombing killing at least 25 people and injuring over 120.
The victims were mostly the police and security personnel.
A suicide bomber blew himself up in a mosque located inside the Police Lines during Zohr prayers, officials and witnesses said.
The bomber was in the front row during the prayers when he blew himself, causing casualties and caving in of the roof of the building.
Till now, 25 deaths were confirmed and at least 120 were injured, according to Peshawar Deputy Commissioner Shafi Ullah Khan.
“The Zohr prayers had just started when it happened,” said an eyewitness.
There were at least 120 people in the mosque when the blast occurred, he said, adding most of them were policemen.
Another eyewitness told the media that he was going to the mosque when the explosion occurred and he fell unconscious.
“It was a powerful explosion. There was smoke everywhere after the blast,” he said.
He said that when he regained consciousness, he saw the roof of the mosque had collapsed.
