6 terrorists killed in 2 encounters in Kashmir

Srinagar: Security forces got a major success in Kashmir as they eliminated 6 terrorists of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), including 2 Pakistanis, in two encounters at two places in South Kashmir.

The two encounters took place almost simultaneously in adjoining districts of Anantnag and Kulgam districts.

A policeman was injured in the encounter in Anantnag and had to be hospitalized.

“6 #terrorists of proscribed #terror outfit JeM killed in two separate #encounters. 4 among the killed terrorists have been identified so far as (2) #Pakistani & (2) local terrorists. Identification of other 02 terrorists is being ascertained. A big #success for us,” Police tweeted this morning, quoting IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar.

The encounter in Nowgam Shahabad, Dooru area of Anantnag erupted at around 7.15 pm yesterday when security forces were laying a cordon for a search operation following inputs about presence of terrorists there.

“In the initial firing, 01 police personnel got injured & was shifted to hospital,” police  tweeted at 7.35 pm.

The encounter continued through the night, resulting in the killing of 3 terrorists.

“Killed #terrorists identified as 02 local categorised terrorists & a #Pakistani terrorist, affiliated with proscribed #terror outfit JeM. They were involved in several terror crimes & civilian #atrocities,” the police tweeted.

Another gunbattle took place in Mirhama area of Kulgam district after a cordon and a search operation was launched by the joint forces.

About an hour after the encounter began, the police tweeted that 3 unidentified terrorists were killed in the encounter and a search operation was underway.

In a subsequent tweet, the police, quoting IGP Vijay Kumar, said, “Two local #terrorists and one #Pakistani terrorist affiliated with proscribed #terror outfit JeM killed. Search still going on. 01 M4 and 02 AK 47 rifles recovered. A big success.”
