Coronavirus death toll exceeds 4,50,000 globally; nearly 8.5 mn cases

New Delhi (NVI): More than 4,50,000 people have died as a result of novel coronavirus while over 8.4 million people have been confirmed to have coronavirus around the world and more than 4 million people have recovered, according to John Hopkins University tally.

In the US, the total number of coronavirus cases have reached nearly 2.2 million while the total number of fatalities have surpassed 1,18,400 in the country.

The total numbe rof COVID-19 cases in Brazil is nearing 1 million while the death toll rose to 47,748 in the country.

The number of people who died from coronavirus infection in France rose by 28 to 29,603, the same increase as Wednesday. The number of new confirmed cases of the virus in the country was 467, at 1,58,641, nine more than 24 hours earlier.

Meanwhile in Italy, reported 66 new deaths and 333 new cases taking the total death toll 34,514 while the total number of confirmed cases amounts to 3,38,159, according to the data.

Canada officially racked up 1,00,000 cases of the novel coronavirus and although the outbreak is slowing, health experts said major challenges remain.

Indonesia reported 1,331 new coronavirus infections, its biggest daily increase since the outbreak started locally, taking its total number of cases to 42,762.
