New Delhi (NVI): Former President Pranab Mukherjee, who underwent surgery to remove a clot in his brain yesterday, continues to remain critical and is on ventilator support, the Army’s Research and Referral (R&R) Hospital said in a statement.
Mukherjee, 84, was also tested positive for coronavirus before surgery and is admitted at the Army hospital in Delhi Cantt.
“Former President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee was admitted to Army Hospital (R&R) Delhi Cantt at 12:07 hours on 10 August 2020 in a critical condition. Workup at the hospital revealed a large brain clot for which he underwent emergency life-saving surgery. Post surgery he continues to remain critical on ventilatory support. He was also found to be COVID-19 positive,” statment from the hospital read.
On Monday, the former President had tweeted: “On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for Covid-19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for Covid-19.”

In addition to this, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also visited the R&R Hospital on Wednesday to enquire about the former president’s health.

Mukherjee was a senior Congress leader before he was elected as India’s 13th President. He served as President from July 2012 to 2017.
