New Delhi (NVI): Widespread and heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms is expected over Peninsular India during the next four to five days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The Met department said a low-pressure area lies over east-central Arabian Sea off Karnataka coast with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 3.1 km above mean sea level. It is very likely to weaken over the same region during next 24 hours.
In addition to this, “Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall and thunderstorm and lightning very likely over Peninsular India during next 4-5 days, IMD tweeted.

The Met department also predicts heavy rainfall at isolated places likely over Karnataka and Kerala and Mahe till September 11 and over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal till September 9.
Meanwhile, the western end of monsoon trough at mean sea level lies near normal position and its eastern end lies north of its normal position. The eastern end of monsoon trough is likely to be north of its normal position or along the foothills of Himalayas during next 5 days, the weather agency stated.
IMD further said that moderate to severe thunderstorm with lightning very likely at isolated places over Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Maharashtra,Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab in next 24 hours.
“Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe and Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during next 12 hours,” it added.
Furthermore, the Met Department in its two-week forecast on September 4 had said, normal rains are likely in most parts of the country, except for over the north-eastern states, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala, between September 10 and 16.
