New Delhi (NVI): The death toll due to the coronavirus have crossed the 1 million mark today while more than 33.3 million people around the world have been diagnosed with COVID-19, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. More than 23.1 million people have recovered from the disease.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported 7,095,422 cases of the new coronavirus, an increase of 36,335 cases from its previous count a day earlier, and said the number of deaths had risen by 295 to 2,04,328.
The number of new COVID-19 cases in the United States has risen for two weeks in a row in 27 out of 50 states, with North Carolina and New Mexico both reporting increases above 50 percent last week.
Brazil’s coronavirus infections have crossed 4.74 million while the number of fatalities have surpassed 1,42,000 in the country.
Spain’s tally of confirmed coronavirus cases has reached 7,48,266, rising by 31,785 from Friday’s total, health ministry data showed. The cumulative death toll is up to 31,411 from 31,232 on Friday.
The UK has reported 4,044 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of cases to 4,39,013, government data showed. The UK also recorded 13 new deaths from the virus, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 42,001.
French health authorities reported 4,070 new COVID-19 infections over the past 24 hours, sharply down from Saturday’s third-highest ever tally of 14,412 and Sunday’s 11,123. The number of people in France who have died from COVID-19 infections rose by 81 to 31,808.
Slovakia’s government is banning most public cultural and sports events due to the alarming spread of the coronavirus, Prime Minister Igor Matovic has said.
Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta extended the nationwide curfew put in place to curb the spread of the new coronavirus but said it would end two hours later at 11pm local time.
