New Delhi (NVI): India coronavirus tally has crossed the 8.7 million mark and currently stands at 87,28,795, with a single-day rise of 44,878 new cases in last 24 hours, Union Health Ministry said.
The country’s death toll has reached to 1,28,688, with 547 new fatalities being reported in the same period.
Notably, a total of 81,15,580 patients have been cured or discharged so far, while the active cases stands at 4,84,547, as per the ministry data.
This is for the third straight day after August when the active coronavirus cases remained below 5 lakh mark in the country.
In the worst-affected Maharashtra, COVID-19 confirmed cases jumped to 17,36,329 which include 45,682 deaths. The active cases in the state stand at 86,583 and 16,05,604 recoveries.
Maharashra is followed by Karnataka (8,55,912), Andhra Pradesh (8,49,705), Tamil Nadu (7,52,521), Kerala (5,08,256) and Uttar Pradesh (5,05,426).
Meanwhile, the national capital has registered 4,67,028 COVID-19 cases, while 7,332 people have died of the virus in Delhi.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, a total of 12.31 crore samples tested for COVID-19 up to November 12. Of these 11,39,230 samples were tested yesterday.
Furthermore, as India enters the Diwali weekend, Health Ministry officials warn that crowding and festive activities may create an upsurge in the coronavirus cases.
