New Delhi (NVI): The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that fresh and active western disturbance is likely to bring more scattered rain and snowfall to the hills in many parts of northern India.
According to the IMD’s weather bulletin, “An active Western Disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from December 26 which could cause scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad between 27 and 28 December.”
Also, isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and isolated rain and thundershowers over adjoining plains of northwest India in the same period.
The Met department also separately predicted that, the easterly waves are likely to cause isolated to scattered rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep Islands between December 31 to January 6, 2021.
Meanwhile, minimum temperatures likely to remain below normal by 1-3 degress Celsius over major parts of the country outside northeastern states during week 1 which falls between December 24 to 30, IMD said.
It added that cold wave conditions likely in some parts over western Himalayan region and in isolated pockets over northwest, central and eastern India from December 26 to 30.
“Minimum temperatures likely to above normal by 2-4 degrees Celsius over central India and northeastern states between December 31 to January 6, 2021,” the IMD said in its weather bulletin.
However, it is likely to remain below normal by 2-3 degrees Celsius over plain of northwest India and Bihar and 1-2 degrees Celsius above normal over Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh after December 31.
Apart from that, the Met department forecasts dense to very dense fog in some pockets very likely over Punjab in the morning hours today and isolated Dense fog in the morning hours of December 26.
“Dense fog in isolated pockets over northern parts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana on December 26 and fresh spell of dense fog likely over plains of north India from December 29,” the IMD added.
