India’s COVID tally reaches 1.03 crore with 19,078 new cases

New Delhi (NVI): India witnessed a single-day rise of 19,078 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the overall caseload to 10,305,788, Union Health Ministry said.

The country’s death toll has gone up to 1,49,218 with 224 fatalities registered during this period.

Notably, 99,06,387 patients have been cured and recovered all over the country while active cases remained below 2.6 lakh mark and stands at 2,50,183. With this, the national recovery rate improved to 96.12 per cent in the country.

Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with total 19,35,636 confirmed cases which include 49,580 deaths. The active cases in the state stand at 53,231 and 18,32,825 recoveries.

Maharashtra is followed by Karnataka (9,20,373), Andhra Pradesh (8,82,612), Tamil Nadu (8,18,935) and Kerala (7,65,924).

The national capital also reported 585 new COVID-19 cases in past 24 hours, pushing the tally to 6,25,954, while the death toll from the virus has reached 10,557 in Delhi.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, more than 17.39 crore samples tested for COVID-19 up to January 1. Of these, 8,29,964 samples were tested yesterday.

Furthermore, the health ministry today said that five states-Kerala, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh-had nearly 62 per cent of the country’s total active COVID-19 cases.
