India’s Covid tally rises by 14,545 fresh cases, 163 deaths

New Delhi (NVI): India saw a rise of 14,545 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of coronavirus cases to 10,625,428, Union Health Ministry confirmed.

The death toll due to the virus rose to 1,53,032, with 163 new fatalities being reported during the same period.

Currently, 97.75 per cent of the infected people have recovered, with recoveries standing at a total of 10,283,708 across the country.

Meanwhile, active coronavirus cases in India have dropped below the 2-lakh mark and stands at 1,88,688 at a time when the country is undergoing the world’s biggest vaccination drive.

The country continues to be second-most-affected globally, and ranks 13th among worst-hit nations by active cases.

In worst-affected Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases increased to 20,00,878 followed by Karnataka with 9,34,252 and Andhra Pradesh with 8,86,557 positive cases.

The number of healthcare workers who have received Covid-19 vaccine jabs in the country till the evening of the sixth day of the nationwide immunisation drive has reached 9,99,065 as per provisional reports, Union Health Ministry said.
