New Delhi (NVI): Afghanistan is high on the list of countries to receive the Covid-19 vaccines from India, Indian envoy Rudrendra Tandon told Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister, Mirwais Nab, in an interaction today.

The Indian envoy to Afghanistan today called on the country’s Deputy Foreign Minister and had a wide-ranging discussion on the Afghan peace process and economic cooperation.

“Deputy and Acting Foreign Minister congratulated India for the successful rollout of COVID-19 vaccine. The Indian Ambassador assured Mr. Nab that Afghanistan is high on the list of countries to receive the vaccine,” the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement today.

Discussing the Afghan peace, Minister Nab touched on the importance of the ceasefire in the second round of Afghan peace talks in Doha, it said.

Apart from that, the two sides also deliberated on development projects and economic cooperation, especially the Shahtoot Dam.

Ambassador Rudrendra Tandon assured Minister Mirwais Nab of the Indian government’s continued commitment to supporting Afghan peace and economic development, the Afghanistan foreign ministry said.

Pertinent to mention here, India has already dispatched vaccines to six key partner countries including Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Myanmar and Seychelles under grant assistance.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), supplies as grant assistance to Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will be undertaken after receiving confirmation of regulatory clearances from these two countries.
