New Delhi (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today lauded the role of National Cadet Corps (NCC) in the service of the nation saying that the cadets have helped the people of the country in times of flood and other natural calamities including COVID-19 pandemic.
Addressing the NCC rally at Cariappa Ground in Delhi, PM Modi said, “From floods to any other natural disasters, NCC cadets have helped the people of India during such calamities,”
“Lakhs of cadets also helped the administration to serve the society during COVID-19. Their work is commendable,” he said.
The Prime Minister also announced that NCC will be assigned new responsibilities in the coming days.
In addition to this, PM Modi said nearly one lakh NCC cadets, who are being trained by the India Army, Navy and Air Force will serve in coastal and border areas.
“On August 15 last year, it was announced that NCC will be given new responsibilities in around 175 districts in the coastal and border areas. For this, around one lakh NCC cadets are being trained by Army, Navy and Air Force. One-third of these are our girl cadets,” he added.
During his speech, PM Modi said that the government has been making all efforts to further expand the role of NCC, adding that its participation is also being boosted to strengthen the security network in the border and coastal areas.
The Prime Minister further said that sense of duty of local people, armed forces’ valour have reduced Naxalism to merely a few districts.
“Naxalism today exists in just a few districts in the country and several people have left practicing it and are contributing to development in the country,” he said.
PM Modi was awarded the Guard of Honour at the rally of NCC at Cariappa ground in New Delhi. He also felicitated the NCC cadets and witnessed cultural performances during the event.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and the three armed services chiefs were also present on the occasion.
