India’s Covid tally over 10.73 mn with 13,083 new cases

New Delhi (NVI): The coronavirus cases in India saw the single-day rise of 13,083 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number to 10,733,131, Union Health Ministry confirmed.

With 137 new fatalities reported since yesterday, the death toll due to the virus rose to 1,54,147.

At present, a total of 10.40 million patients have been cured an recovered across the country, while the active cases dropped to 1.69 lakh mark and stands at 1,69,824.

In worst-affected Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases increased to 20,21,184 followed by Karnataka with 9,38,401 and Kerala with 9,17,630 positive cases.

The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh, (8,87,591), Tamil Nadu (8,37,327) and Uttar Pradesh (5,99,837).

Meanwhile, the national capital also reported 249 new COVID-19 cases in past 24 hours, pushing the tally to 6,34,773, while the death toll from the virus has reached 10,841 in Delhi.

As many as 19.58 crore samples tested for COVID-19 up to January 29. Of these, 7,56,329 samples were tested yesterday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data shows.

In another development, the Centre yesterday asked all states and Union Territories to initiate vaccination of frontline workers simultaneously with health workers from February 1, to speed up the vaccination drive against COVID-19.
