New Delhi (NVI): The government of Gujarat today extended the night curfew in four major cities of the state till February 15, to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The curfew imposed in four metro cities of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot will remain in force from February 1 to 15 from 11 pm to 6 am.
This decision comes in the wake of COVID-19 cases going down in the state and the beginning of the vaccination drive.
According to the reports, Additional chief secretary, home department Pankaj Kumar said the night curfew in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Surat will now be from 11 pm to 6 am up to February 15.
Kumar said the number of active COVID-19 cases in the country is on the decline for the last four months and the drop has been substantial in Gujarat
“During the night curfew in the state, apart from containment zones, economic activities will continue in other areas of Gujarat,” he added.
Meanwhile, the state government said that the strict SOPs will need to be followed for social, educational, sports, entertainment, and cultural and religious activities, and other congregations, the reports said. Also, only 200 people allowed at a wedding and these new guidelines will be valid till February 28.
Earlier, the state government had announced the night curfew till January 31, but reduced the curfew timing by one hour to 10 pm to 6 am.
